Faith...Conscience...and a Wedding Cake? Della loves Tim, Jen loves Macy, and then there's

that TV show called The Great American Bake-off. Take the the Dog this summer!

(Albuquerque 6/30/19) - Aux Dog Theatre Nob Hill is proud to present the New Mexico Premiere of the acclaimed dramatic romantic comedy, THE CAKE. The Cake opens July 19th and runs through August 11th with 2 FOR 1 Discounts through July 18th. Advance Tickets are available at or call 505-596-0607.

Della Brady owns a legendary bakery in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and she has just been cast in the reality TV baking show, The Great American Bake-off. She knows that life like her cakes is wonderful. That is, until Jen, the daughter of her deceased best friend, comes back home to be married and asks Della to bake her wedding cake. Only catch is Jen, the bride-to be, is marrying another bride-to-be. The dilemma between Della's strong religious conservative beliefs and her love for Jen as the daughter she never had, causes her to reevaluate almost all of her values.

This very current hot button issue comes at the audience in a deliciously funny comedic special event. Cake is served after every performance and a series of talk backs will be held throughout the run.

THE CAKE was partially inspired by the Colorado Court case where the baker refused to bake a wedding cake for two gay men and the baker won. Playwright Bekah Brunstetter makes a multi-layered cake out of that incident and takes a fresh look at love and marriage in 21st century red and blue America.

THE CAKE is written by Bekah Brunstetter who is an acclaimed playwright and she has also written for the Starz Network, namely AMERICAN GODS, and is currently a writer and producer on THIS IS US for which she has been nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. Ms. Brunstetter is a native of North Carolina; she moved to New York City and had experiences that closely reflect those of Jen in THE CAKE. The play is outrageously funny, deeply moving and unabashedly uncompromising in telling the truth from all the characters' points-of-view---red and blue.

THE CAKE premiered in Los Angeles with Debra Jo Rupp (That 70s Show) in the starring role, a performance for which she was nominated for several acting awards. The play has also been produced at the La Jolla Playhouse, Houston's Alley Theatre, and the Off-Broadway premiere at the Manhattan Theatre Club where it recently closed.

The New Mexico Premiere at the Aux Dog is directed by Janet Davidson who is the Vice Chair of Women

in Film and Television International, and who has directed CAGNEY and LACEY, JUDGING AMY and multiple episodes of ANY DAY NOW. She has also directed numerous stage productions in Santa Fe with her company FOR GIVING PRODUCTIONS. The cast features, Joni L. Lloyd, Sara Werner Hoskins, Belle Allen and Paul Meeker.

The Aux Dog Theatre is located at 3011 to 3015 Monte Vista Blvd. NE between Richmond and Dartmouth, a half block North of Central. The theatre is handicapped accessible and there is plenty of FREE Parking surrounding the building.
